Extending Protection Through Monitoring Systems

Posted on August 18th, 2008 in Home Security by Alarm

Living in today’s society is so much different than when you lived in the 60’s and 70’s. More and more crimes have been occurring even at midday when in the past, criminals and burglars would only attack at night when everyone else is at the depths of sleeping. Now, burglar alarms have been practically a part of every home to make one’s home safe and loved ones protected. However, it is not enough to just have burglar alarms installed at home.

Burglar alarm monitoring is as important as having just a simple one installed. Monitoring systems are a little more expensive than the ordinary bell alarm. But once triggered, they will notify the local police by sending distress signals to them. In some areas, the police have their own monitoring center which automatically receives the signals directly while in some cases the monitoring center is provided by the makers of the burglar alarm who will be the ones responsible for alarming the police. Burglar alarm monitoring systems, if available at home, provides round-the-clock security for the household.

It’s no longer a mystery why monitoring systems for burglar alarms are necessary. It is imperative to have the police informed at once in any burglary. Informing the police fast spells the difference in catching a thief on the act and having him thrown in jail. The importance of having monitoring systems for home-installed burglar alarms is also seen when the burglary occurs when the house is empty and no one is available to notify the police. In such cases, the home still remains protected even when no one is at home.

Burglar alarms do come with many features other than just ringing a sound or informing the police automatically when triggered. Some burglar alarms have a silent mode which could be turned on. The alarm won’t sound but if a monitoring system is installed, the police will still be notified and hopefully, the burglar caught. Silent burglar alarms, however, have a slightly increased risk of the burglary ending up successful because the household members and neighbors are not alerted.

Another feature that a burglar alarm monitoring system could have is having one’s mobile phone alerted when the alarm is triggered. This is very useful when one is not at home or when one wants to double check that the burglary is stopped on time. The home owner can even alert the police even if one is away from home.

As one can see, burglar alarm monitoring systems greatly extend the value of having burglar alarms installed at home. In times when the safety and well-being of the household is at risk, it is important that household owners remain proactive.
