How to Make a Simple DIY Burglar Alarm

Our homes’ security is important to almost every homeowner. This is the reason that homeowner hire security guards from security agencies or buy houses at exclusive subdivisions for added level of security.

In addition to this some homes also have burglar alarms systems installed on the doorways, windows and other passages to detect if there is unauthorized entry in the house.

Some people who are also good in wiring decide to study and create their own diy burglar alarm. A diy burglar alarm is better because you will have better control on how simple or how complex the alarm system should be. Since you also live in the house, with your diy burglar alarm, you can customize it depending on which you think is the most vulnerable part of your house and how loud the alarm should be.

The principles in a diy burglar alarm are quite simple. There are elementary and high school project which are based on these principles.

Let us look at this basic DIY burglar alarm. For this diy burglar alarm experiment, all you will need are some insulated wire, some thread, scissors, a small buzzer, a 1.5 volt battery, a wooden clothes pin that is using a spring, a piece of wood with an area of twelve by five inches, some electrical tape and super glue.

To start your diy burglar alarm project, connect one pole of the battery to the buzzer. You may attach the battery on the left side of your wooden board and the buzzer to the right side of the board.

For your diy burglar alarm switch, you have to wrap the each crocodile ends of the clothespin with the non-insulated portion of your wire. When the clothespin is closed, the wires should touch. This will trigger your diy burglar alarm.

Place a cardboard in between the ends of the clothespin to prevent the buzzer from activating while you are still working on your diy burglar alarm.

Connect one of the wires from the clothespin to the battery. The other wire wrapped on the clothespin should be connected to the other end of the buzzer. This will close the circuit of your diy burglar alarm.

To test the diy burglar alarm, remove the cardboard that you have placed in between the clothespin. This should make the buzzer produce a sound.

This is the basic principle in a diy burglar alarm. From this idea, other more complicated burglar alarm systems were developed.
