Burglar Alarms and Home Security

There are two ways to have a home kept safe from burglary: install self-monitoring or monitored burglar alarm systems.

Self-monitoring burglar alarm devices do not need central stations that monitor emergency signals sent by burglar alarm devices. Self-monitoring alarm devices work in a very simple way: someone trips over them, they set off a noisy alarm, and the alarm alerts everyone—the house owner, the burglar, and the neighbors. It does not send for help or alert the authorities. The owner is left to defend the property—unlike monitored burglar alarm systems.

With monitored burglar alarm systems, this is exactly the kind of service people get. With the help of the central station, other people affected by the emergency are also alerted and police help is quickly dispatched. Hence, a monitored burglar alarm system is more beneficial and advantageous, especially during a real burglary.

Picture this one incident on burglary: the house owner, an old lady, happened to be alone at home that night. Other members of the family had to sleep somewhere else.
